Event: National Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month

Date: 2016-09-01

Description: Congress designated September as National Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month to help focus attention on the need for research and treatment of sickle cell disease, an inherited condition which affects an estimated 100,000 individuals in the United States and millions globally. . Educate your families, friends and communities about Sickle Cell Disease

. Encourage individuals to have a blood test to get screened for sickle cell trait or sickle cell disease

. Show your love and support to those affected by sickle cell disease. A loving smile, a warm hug, words of encouragement, a visit to the hospital can go a long way to those who are suffering from the disease.

. Have your church designate a Sunday in September as Sickle Cell Sabbath and ask your congregation to contribute to the Foundation by means of collecting a special donation and/or a budget line item in your annual budget during the month of September or annually

. Contribute monetary donations

. Donate blood

. Register to become a Bone Marrow Donor
